* What led up to the situation?
Installed task-xfce-desktop and some other task-* packages in jessie.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?
Upgraded from jessie to ascii.
* What was the outcome of this action?
The task-xfce-desktop package was uninstalled during
upgrade and not installable again after upgrade.
The tasksel package was not upgraded as the version
in ascii is lower than the version in jessie.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
The tasksel and task-* packages should have been
upgraded alongside all the other packages from jessie
to ascii.
tasksel and other task-* packages in ascii should have
their versions updated to be equal to (or greater than
if any changes from) the package versions in jessie.
Debian has a newer version 3.39 in stretch.
