Dear Maintainer,

This was a new installation of Devuan/Jessie that was
immediately upgraded to Devuan/Ascii. The disk containing
the old Debian/Jessie is not currently mounted. The initial
install was via the Devuan Jessie DVD.

There is a forum thread of this problem at
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=784

Viewing the slim GUI login screen, there is no obvious mouse/cursor.
Unplugging and replugging in USB mouse did not change this.

System is a Dell Optiplex 740 SFF, with the 70-ish GB SATA drive
replaced with a 250 GB SSD. The original installation was to a single
41 GB ext4 partition, and that was upgraded to Devuan/Ascii. A set of
other partions mostly formatted as btrfs, ext4 and ext2 was set up to
receive copies of the appropriate parts of the Devuan/Ascii filesystem
(/, /usr, /var, /home are btrfs; /boot, /tmp, /var/log are ext2).

Installing gpm showed that the mouse would work on the console.
Installing lightdm and setting that as the default, produced a
mouse/cursor in the GUI.

According do fsmithred:

"There are no buttons, links or drop-down menus in the slim login
screen, or anything else to click on. Unless I'm missing something,
there's no reason to use a mouse. This bug should be closed."

So I'm closing it
