Package: icecat
Version: 52
Homepage: https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/
Description: Safe and easy web browser from GNU
IceCat delivers safe, easy web browsing. A familiar user interface,
enhanced security features including protection from online identity
theft, and integrated search let you get the most out of the web.
The goals of the IceCat project is to provide a completely free version
of the popular Mozilla source code, and set concerned options to
"privacy by default" and "security by default".
The base Mozilla (Firefox) code is free but it supports and suggests
using non-free plugins and data leaking to its sponsors. GNU IceCat is
completely FOSS, suggests only FOSS plugins to users and default options
is to users remain independent.
It's convenient to Icecat be supported by Devuan instead of having to
install it from third party repository (Trisquel) or having to use raw
Firefox/Chromium at open networks.
IceCat is simply a cleaner and respectful Firefox: Unlike TorBrowser and
like Firefox, Icecat works through normal net, but has clean default
preferences (eg. no leaks with the use of Google resources) and better
privacy settings by default and Fingerprinting countermeasures, SpyBlock.
IceCat is generated from Firefox with the scripts available at
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnuzilla.git
