From: Kristopher John Gamrat <email@example.com> To: firstname.lastname@example.org Subject: Devuan/Debian's version of WordGrinder does not recognize "new" WordGrinder formatsu - k Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2018 13:32:24 -0500 [Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)] Package: wordgrinder Version: 0.5.1-1 ---------------------> PLEASE REPLY BELOW THIS MESSAGE <--------------------- When attempting to edit a document (by typing `wordgrinder <document>.wg`) saved using WordGrinder 0.7.1, I see the following error message produced by the Debian/Devuan version of WordGrindger: > '/home/kjg/debpackaging/wordgrinder-0.7.1/test.wg' is not a valid > WordGrinder file. The changelog for WordGrinder version 0.7 reveals the likely cause: * https://github.com/davidgiven/wordgrinder/releases/tag/0.7 > new text-based file format --- WordGrinder files are now diffable To resolve this, one of two things needs to happen: 1. Support for the new document format needs to be backported to the Debian/Devuan package. 2. (Preferable) Since "ancient" is not a requisite for being stable, the package could be updated to the latest stable version of WordGrinder (currently 0.7.1). Attached include a WordGrinder test document saved in WordGrinder 0.7.1. It reads and edits fine in 0.7.1, but produces the mentioned error message in 0.5.1 (the version provided in the Debian/Devuan repos). I have also modified the packaging scripts from the Debian/Devuan package to build 0.7.1, and attached only the debian directory as a compressed tarball. NOTE: I barely understand anything about the packaging side of dpkg -- if you use it, please check it over first (it builds and installs fine for me, but I still won't guarantee it was done correctly). I am using Devuan Jessie. The version of WordGrinder provided via apt-get is 0.5.1-1. -- Kristopher Gamrat Jabber ID: email@example.com My OpenPGP Key Fingerprints: CBB4 4C0B 7794 F668 D486 9B68 02C0 8EE2 7F03 0E92 May you be blessed by Our Holy Glob the FSM. ---------------------------- A friendly reminder ---------------------------- > On Tuesday, January 02, 2666 at 12:02:46 PM, Kris said: > > > > On Monday, January 01, 2666 at 13:13:13 PM, Kris' Evil Twin said: > > > > > > Why do you want me to reply below quotes? > > > > > On Sunday, December 31, 2665 at 10:32:46 AM, Kris said: > > > > > > > > Please reply below quotes. > > > > > > Because: > > * it helps avoid confusing email quotes like this example > > * it makes it easier to match the quote dates to the quotes > > * it makes it easier for us to truncate quotes without messing up the > > quote dates or the ordering of the quotes > > * it makes it easier for the me to see what you are replying to (because > > it's the very first thing I see in your message) > > * it makes it easier for me to reference the quote of your message when I > > am typing my reply (because it's the last thing in your message and > > immediately above where my email client has me type my message) > > > > Thank you for understanding. > > ---------------------> PLEASE REPLY BELOW THIS MESSAGE <--------------------- [wordgrinder-debian-pkg-script-dir-for-0.7.1.tar.xz (application/x-txz, attachment)] [test.wg (application/octet-stream, attachment)] [signature.asc (application/pgp-signature, inline)]
