Message #5 received at submit@bugs.devuan.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin
Version: 0.4.2-1
Severity: normal
File: pulseaudio-plugin
Dear Maintainer,
I have pulseaudio disabled from session startup and from /etc/pulse/client.conf. I usually use ALSA and I need to be able to start and use pulseaudio only on request.
Since last apt-get upgrade pulseaudio starts automatically and if stopped it gets restarted by the XFCE plugin.
Please note that I need pulseaudio *not* to start from the session so pasuspend is not a solution,
I could not find a way to stop pulseaudio and keep it dead if the pulseaudio-plugin is active (which is also required as I need it when pulseaudio is running) except chmod -x /usr/bin/pulseaudio.
As an alternative I could simply uninstall the pulseaudio-plugin and reinstall it every time I start Pulseaudio.
Disabling pulseaudio from the session or changing settings in /etc/pulse/client.conf seem to be ignored by the plugin.
This is not a showstopper, just a usability issue. Is there an easier way to do it?
Cheers,
Nico

How have you done that?
What do you have in the file /etc/pulse/client.conf.d/00-disable-autospawn.conf?
The default is autospawn=no

Does disabling pulseaudio autostart in Settings -> Session and Startup ->
Application Autostart achieve what you want?

No, it doesn't. Disabling autostart in Session and Startup still
causes pulseaudio to be started by the plugin.
This is a regression, it was working fine a month ago (ie I was able
to stop pulseaudio and pulseaudio would stay dead). Not sure which
apt-get upgrade could have caused this.

Could you have a look through /var/log/apt/ then and try and pinpoint the
regression?
Have you installed something since that is reactivating pulselaudio?
When you disable pulseaudio in the session is
.config/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop created with 'Hidden=true'?
It is odd as most of the bugs about pulseaudio relate to not being able to start
it at all (see #378 and friends).
