Many scripts uses tempfile to get a temporary file. Version 5.0.1-1
removed it so many parts of the system fail including init scripts,
xsessions and many more.

Thanks for this. Debianutils is not a forked package and Devuan uses Debian's
packages directly without recompilation. Therefore, in principle, this should be
reported to Debian's BTS to be fixed there.

Debian has just released Bullseye and therefore there are going to be many
uploads to unstable which may be *much* more unstable than of recent.

I suspect the Debian maintainer's answer may be that this merely uncovers a bug
in the packages which use tempfile (which has been deprecated for a while) and you should bug them
directly. Indeed the x11-common has already been reported[1]. So reassigning
this particular case.

Please report other cases to the relevant BTS.

there are some facts from planet.debian:
   Mystical secrets of the bookworm

   # unmerged /usr is unsupported in bookworm and sid has been feeding bookworm since 2021-08-14,

   unmerged /usr is also unsupported in sid since 2021-08-14,

   no one using any portion of either bookworm or sid since 2021-08-14 should have any expectation that things should function correctly with unmerged /usr ,

   # anyone using any portion of either bookworm or sid should execute apt install usrmerge or perform its equivalent on or prior to 2021-08-14.

... that shows they wittingly destroy all use cases that are not in sync
with systemd thinking.

Poettering do not understand why a seperated /usr makes sense so he and
his community wittingly oposed for his broken usrmerge.

So there might be more breaking changes coming up for no special reason
except to destroy compatibility to the rest of the world.
